What I did: Today I focused on creating the child character in story, at this moment he does not have a name but if we decide on one I start to reference him as such. The reason why I focused on creating designs for this character was because I wanted to start on creating the detailed storyboard after we decided on how each character should look, I didn't want to put in the kid only for them to look different and then have to redo the thumbnails.

Creating concepts for a child is not something I am familiar with, so to help me I did some research into a child's anatomy to see how their bones were structured and the average height of one. After making some silhouettes on a possible figure and height I went onto creating more refined pieces, whilst creating the pieces I also had to think about how the child would look in the same style as Charlie. So I made sure his arms were skinny and also quite long without looking odd to the viewer, the legs also had to be skinnier. Whilst creating these concepts I shown them to my team for feedback, in early designs the child had a face shape similar to Charlie's and based on feedback I changed to a more round shape. The reason why is because a rounder shape is able to capture that feeling of safety and innocence and that is something we wanted to portray in the child, also maybe having the same facial structure as Charlie would confuse the viewer into thinking him and Charlie could be related.

In earlier designs he was looked clean and posh, his hair was neat and he wore a shirt. This wasn't something that we felt was accurate in the character so I made his hair a bit more wild and messier, I also changed his clothing to a light jacket, t-shirt and black jeans. With the aid of my team and me constantly updating them with the work I was creating I was able to create a design that everyone felt was cohesive with what we wanted to show, so I am very pleased about that. I was also able to take shape theory into my work with the child's head shape to convey innocence and that I definitely an area I wish to expand on where I can.
