What I did: Today I focused on using the moodboards I created the previous and applying what I learnt to my work. I start by sketching out possible facial expressions for Charlie, Why I did this was to get an understanding on how his face would look in whilst he is conveying different, such as what position and angle would his nose be at. Creating these sketches helped me get a better understanding of how to use facial expressions to convey certain emotions.
I also went onto creating full body of Charlie to get a visual understanding of his appearance, I used the another moodboard I created looking at stylised characters and used that as a reference for when creating Charlie. I started off by creating silhouettes, why I did this was to get his shape down before trying to do any detailed pieces. I then went onto making a more detailed full body of Charlie after deciding on a silhouette.
Areas that I feel that I could have improved on today was communicating with my team better, I asked about the shape of Charlie's head but I should've kept them up to date and asked if they were happy with design choices I made, so I will definitely aim to do that in the future. In the future I also wish to look into character poses to express Charlie even further through visual storytelling, so I will do more research into how I can do that.
Later in the day I watched videos on cinematography, why I did this was because I am going to be creating a storyboard with another team member. I want to have the best understanding possible of how to use shots to tell a story rather than words. I will research into this area further by looking into how to use the rule of third as effectively as possible. I will also be doing more research into other techniques, such as composition and how to use negative space effectively.
"The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds so you have 9 parts." thus resulting that "if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally." So if I place say Charlie on one of these intersections then the viewer's eye will be more drawn to where Charlie is, I will try to use this as effectively as possible in my shots.
