What I Did:
On this day the course started a Game Jam that we would be
doing until the end of the week based on the word “Fairy tale”. Everybody was
assigned to a team and we would all then communicate with each other on
deciding what we should all do and have accomplished for the end of the week.
We all decided on creating a timeline where the creatures and humans from fairy
tales coexisting, however the couple we based our story on hate humans so they
live in seclusion in the woods. They also captured a family and decided to
adopt the child and raise it as their own whilst keeping the parents to then
eat. I asked everyone what areas they felt the comfortable in thus resulting in
the team being split with two people being happier with 3D and two with 2D.
I was more comfortable in creating 2D concepts
so I focused on that for the Jam. On the first day I felt very comfortable to
talk with the team and ask them if they felt comfortable with the story and
goals they had to complete. I also checked on teammates to see if they are on
track. Communication with people I’m not familiar with has always been an area
I was never very keen on so being able to talk my teammates with no problem
makes me feel that I’m improving on my communication skills with others. I
still wish to improve on it so I will make sure to be constantly communicating
with my team. Since I’m focused on 2D and we’ve got until the end of the week to
complete our project I’m working on creating my initial concepts faster but
also trying to keep them at a nice standard. To help me achieve this for the
Game Jam I’ve been blocking out colours and then adding extra details after,
with the work I’ve produced so far I feel that I am improving on this area.
However, I still know that I have a lot to improve on too, to help me improve I
will do more research on concepts I’m creating by searching up reference and
understanding certain aspects better, such as anatomy.
