What I Did: Today I put my focus back on the Harpy family.
To get better at lighting I decided to put an arrow on my piece to represent
where the light is coming from. I feel that adding the arrow helped me get a
perspective for how the light would affect the clothing, skin and hair and
whilst I continue to improve on this area I will test it out on more complex
pieces and do more research into how light affects different materials and surfaces.
I still aim to improve on being able to create
quick concepts by blocking out colours, I tried to do this today by making big
blocks of a colour and then adding detail. I did this with a Harpy and I felt
that I did this effectively, however to improve I should do more research into
what I’m going to create then I am to create a more realistic and accurate
piece. To do this I could research into different types of anatomy and create
future references for myself to speed up the process of researching. I also
should research into how artists are able to create pieces quickly, such as
what techniques they use and then incorporate that into my work process.
