What I did: Today I researched into some points I made earlier in the journal, the reason why is because it's important for me to back up what I say with quotes from other so my work doesn't seem uninformed.
After this I continued with creating possible thumbnails for the storyboard, I aimed to keep the sketches rough, why is so I wouldn't take an unnecessary amount of time to create them. Since I kept them rough I didn't add any background details and could just focus on what I supposed to be shown, in the more detailed pieces I will make sure to include the background. In a particular sketch I wanted to focus on testing myself on lighting, how I did this was by having reference to look. I am proud with how this piece turned out, however the shading on his face didn't match the background so i will improve in that area. I also made a shot where the camera was peaking through the door to find Charlie sitting on the floor, why is to show the isolation of Charlie in this specific moment.
At home I did some more sketches of possible camera, I want to focus more on getting that look through small gaps. I will test out more possible scenarios, for example the camera could be looking trough gaps in the bookshelf, dishes or cups. Being inspired by "2001: a space odyssey" and one point perspective, I drew a shot that looked down the hallway and the intention was for the hallway that look much longer than it really is. I envisioned that Charlie would be walking down it after realising he's deaf and the shot would start out with the camera upside down the turning the whole scene so everything was the right way up. The reason why was to throw the viewer off balance and giving them the sense that Charlie is going through where he has no grasp on what is happening due to shock.
I also watched "Death in Paradise", the reason why is because it's a detective show so it would be a good opportunity to get see how they position the camera to get close to characters. The show had shots that would pan around environments and items to get a better look at them and show more angles. Whilst interviewing characters the camera would get close to show their expression so the viewer can also pick up how they might be feeling. This would be good for the viewer so they can get a good look at Charlie's reaction to certain situations.
