What I did: Today I focused on getting some more quotes for journal from the books I got from the library yesterday and adding them to my previous entries. This was very helpful in letting me reference and back up what I'm saying rather than it seeming uninformed, I will continue to look through and reference these books and anything that has helped me in the future.
Today I mainly focused on getting the second act of the storyboard completed, how I aimed to improve from yesterday was to keep my sketches rough and not to add any unneeded detail. I achieved this by making Charlie a silhouette instead of trying to draw his features. I drew a piece that was inspired by the editing from the "Sherlock" series where a camera would cut through the wall to reveal a new scene. I didn't go as drastic as this but I made it so a door would be between Charlie and death to show both of them in the same shot. Why I did this piece was to show that I have learned and also been inspired by watching these movies and shows and to also experiment with it in the animation. I also wanted to use backlight in this concept which "refers to the main source of the light behind the photography subject. In other words, the main light (or one of the main lights) is positioned in such as way that it faces the camera." This would results on the edges of death's cloak to glow a bright colour due to the light.
Keeping the sketches rough made it so that I was able to create more pieces, I will continue to do this for act 3 and in the future where my pieces need to be rough. I also started to do sketches for Charlie when he is much older, why is because I haven't started him yet since I wanted to focus on the younger variation since he would be the one showing up in act 1 and 2. I will use what I have learnt from doing the thumbnails and keep the early sketches rough then when we've all decided on a design I will start to go more detailed. I will do the same as I did with young Charlie and Todd where I make a turnaround, why is because this will help the character modeller in creating him into a 3D model and make the process much faster.
At home I focused on getting doing ideas, the reason why was so when I come in next I know what kind of shots I should be going for. After watching multiple shows and movies I wanted to decide on what direction would be best to go in, I didn't want to go in multiple directions because that's where I've suffered in past modules. Why I say this is because in past modules I got too ambitious with what I felt that I could do and this would result in me having too much to do and not getting aspects I say I would get done completed. So, I wanted to scale back on what I should do, what this means with the storyboard is that me and my teammate will focus mainly on creating still shots and using other types for important parts of the animation rather than trying to do all types of shots. This will result in our work being a lot more consistent with each others and will also cut down the amount we have to do.
